Are private guitar lessons worth it?
With so many guitar lessons on youtube, are private guitar lessons worth it
It is truly mind-boggling just how much guitar content is online, with millions and millions of lessons, tips, and how-to videos, gear reviews etc, why would anyone get private lessons anymore? Are private guitar lessons worth it?
I know myself when I was learning, (pre-internet) even looking at videos, books and guitar magazines was overwhelming enough, and confusing. A subject explained differently, or given more or less importance by different sources.
For example, the fantastic instructor giving a lesson on Youtube, about chord theory, doesn’t know that you’re unaware of the importance of intervals, which make’s understanding the lesson hard, confusing and off-putting, fuelling a feeling of uncertainty.
“Am I on the right track here? Am I wasting my time on this, when I should be focusing on this etc..?“
I know that confused bamboozlement all too well.
What a good private music teacher can do is be a guide, to curate and prioritise subjects and theory, rather than feel lost on the guitar lesson high-seas, good private lessons can help you navigate what is essential to you and your skill and understanding.
We are all individuals, and are all wired up a bit different (thank goodness), one concept will be easier to grasp to one student, compared to another who may need to go back a step or two and consolidate a particular theory or concept. We all have different musical tastes and musical objectives, good private guitar lessons can help immensely, by tailoring the lessons to you, and no one else, and that’s what I do.
It’s very rewarding when the penny drops and a student gets insight and starts progressing. I do feel as if I’m part of a guitar recruitment organisation, as I strongly believe in the power of guitar and music, and how they can enhance our lives, through creativity, collaboration, social engagement, and offers a formidable opponent to the powerful forces, and mind numbing distraction of social media.
